Manchester United not “designed” to play in the Premier League, says former player
Former Manchester United player Paul Parker has claimed that Manchester United are not currently designed to play in the Premier League.
In their first season under Erik ten Hag, Manchester United have had quite a turbulent season.
The 2022/23 season has seen extreme highs, such as winning the 2023 Carabao Cup final and defeating Manchester City and Arsenal at Old Trafford, while the lows encompass embarrassing losses away from home against Liverpool and Sevilla.

Currently, the squad sit in fourth place on the Premier League table, with 63 points after 34 fixtures – they are one point ahead of Liverpool in fifth, who have played an extra fixture.
One key objective of the season outlined before a ball had been kicked is that Manchester United need to qualify for next season’s Champions League trophy, with the competition allowing the club to further attract the biggest stars in the game and earn more revenue.
Speaking to indiabetting, ex-United defender Paul Parker has explained his thoughts on the current squad.
“I definitely don’t feel that this Man United team is designed to play in the Premier League,” he explained.
“Yes, they brought in Casemiro and Eriksen who should play in the Champions League. But Manchester United doesn´t design a squad to play in the Champions League.
“They are playing to qualify for the Champions League and then they have to build on from there to win the Champions League. The problem is that Man United haven’t been able to build on the club since 2013.”
Parker also delved further into what the problems are at Old Trafford, targeting the transfer policy the club has adopted over the years.
“What Man United has been doing in terms of signing players since then is to go shopping in a low-budget supermarket.”
“Erik ten Hag came in and he energised a lot of the players for a long time but it seems like all the players have lost that bit now. A lot of the players have overachieved and overperformed this season.”
