Manchester United have adjusted their transfer plans following Ruben Amorim’s latest decision in charge.

Ruben Amorim was appointed by Manchester United earlier this season as Erik ten Hag’s successor, and he has since overseen 13 matches.

While results have been inconsistent, Amorim has gained valuable insights into many of his players during this time.

With the January transfer window ongoing, and plans for the upcoming summer window underway, there are many targets which United are keeping their eyes on.

Amorim said Maguire extension was “no brainer” for United

It was confirmed by Amorim earlier this month that the club would be activating the one-year extension clause in Harry Maguire’s contract.

The 31-year-old centre-back’s deal was running out at the end of the season but he will now remain at Old Trafford after finding himself as a solid option in the middle of Amorim’s back three.

When speaking about the decision to extend, Maguire revealed that the United boss told him it was a “no brainer” decision from his point of view.

“Ruben said to me that when it came across to him that I had an option [in my contract], he said it was a no brainer for him.” said Maguire.

“It’s given me confidence and belief that they want me at the club and part of this project. He’s really demanding.

“And I’m happy to be here. I want this club to be back fighting for titles and not fighting where we are in the table right now. We’ve got a long way to go.”

United no longer targeting Branthwaite

United are now reportedly no longer targeting Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer following the decision to extend Maguire’s contract.

Branthwaite had agreed personal terms to join the club last summer but Everton blocked multiple bids from United and refused to budge from a £70 million price tag.

It had been well reported that Amorim’s side were planning to re-visit a deal for the English defender after the season finished but that plan has now changed.

According to a report from MailSport, the club will instead be looking at younger centre-backs with potential rather than big money deals such as Branthwaite.

It was explained that this will allow United to focus their transfer funds on other areas of the team to improve, with the Reds working on a limited budget.

United currently have many options for the back three positions, while roles such as wingback and striker are limited for Amorim.
