Manchester United are reportedly no longer considering a sale for one “versatile” player after he impressed Ruben Amorim this season.
There are expected to be many changes at Manchester United in the summer transfer window as the club try to improve Ruben Amorim’s squad.
It is clear that signings are needed, particularly in forward areas, but the Reds are also set to sell some of the underperforming stars at Old Trafford.
Some players have struggled to adapt to Amorim’s system since he arrived while others have slowly improved their levels under the Portuguese boss.
Joshua Zirkzee had a difficult start at the club but looked to improve when moved into the duel no.10 roles in the new-look system, rather than up front.
United no longer considering Zirkzee exit
Zirkzee, 23, almost looked like he didn’t have a future under Amorim when the boss admitted that he didn’t see the Dutchman as a striker in his system.
However, the forward player improved over recent months and up until his recent injury, he was one of United’s better performing players.
Amorim had been using him as a no.10 but his game also seemed to improve when playing as the striker. While he does not offer enough of a goalscoring threat, the linkup play he provided was helping the team.
Despite previous rumours which suggested Amorim was open to selling Zirkzee, it is now being reported that the club are planning to keep him next season despite interest from elsewhere.
Graeme Bailey has explained that those at Old Trafford believe he has a lot to offer, including his “versatility” to play in the no.10 positions as well as up front.
“So – we can say as it stands United are planning to keep him,” the reporter told UnitedInFocus. “He does still have interest but it is believed they feel that Zirkzee has a lot to offer, in terms of versatility etc.”
Zirkzee changed Amorim’s opinion but still needs to improve
Zirkzee has clearly changed the opinion of Amorim and the majority of the United fanbase after such a difficult period.
It is a shame that the Dutchman is out of action for the rest of the season but he will be hoping to come back stronger for the 2025/26 campaign.
One aspect about the 23-year-old is that he seems to play better when others are on the same wavelength as him. Sometimes, United’s current players aren’t able to linkup as he would like to.

So, potentially, with signings coming in and the team improving next term, we could see even further improvement in his game.
Zirkzee definitely needs to work on his actions in the final third. If he can combine his ability on the ball with a threat inside the box, he could become a very useful player for the team.
