Manchester United may make their decision on Mason Greenwood in the next few weeks.

Manchester United suspended Mason Greenwood in January 2022 after videos circulated on social media that showed alleged abuse of his girlfriend.

Greenwood was arrested on charges of assault and attempted rape that month and further arrested in relation to threats to kill, but the Crown Prosecution Service eventually dropped the charges.

After the charges had been dropped, Manchester United decided to instigate their own internal investigation into the facts of the matter, keeping Greenwood suspended until further notice.

It was widely reported that the club would not make a decision before the end of the 2022/23 season, which concluded at the beginning of May.

With United set to recall their players for pre-season training in early July before the squad starts their pre-season tour, the club may make their final decision on Mason Greenwood before then – meaning an answer may surface within the next two weeks.

United have four realistic options available to them. First, they could decide to release Greenwood from his contract, making him a free agent and able to sign for any club that offers him a contract. Alternatively, they could welcome him back into the first-team squad.

The club could also decide to sell the Englishman in order to gain some profit from his departure or loan him for one season for Greenwood to start playing football once again away from the club’s intense limelight.

Previous reports have suggested that Erik ten Hag is willing to accept Mason Greenwood into his squad, although the final decision on the forward’s future will ultimately be made by the owners the Glazer family and CEO Richard Arnold.
