Manchester United are still in talks over a potential loan deal as one of their players look likely to make a move to Italy in January.
Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport reported that a potential loan deal for Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee is making progress.
Talks have been held between United and AS Roma, who currently sit fourth in the Serie A standings. The idea that the 24-year-old may make his move from the Premier League during the January transfer window is looking more likely.
It is suggested that the Reds have considered the possibility of the club making a loan deal with an obligation to buy included for the Dutch international.
However, the striker would only be able to depart from the club between the middle and end of January to provide Ruben Amorim with options due to the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad currently competing for their international sides at AFCON.
Roma are also said to be targeting Atletico Madrid’s Giacomo Raspadori by that point; however, Zirkzee remains an option for head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
United stand firm despite Roma negotiations
Sports Witness has shared that the deal that’s been put on United’s table is near £35m, with Roma putting forward an initial loan fee of around £4.5m and an option to buy around £25m. Alongside this bonuses of £4.5m will be given to Amorim’s side if Roma qualify for the Champions League.
Although this is a comfortable offer for Zirkzee, United’s demands stand near the £50m mark. Roma have high hopes that the Reds will be willing to compromise.
United signed Zirkzee from Bologna in July 2024 for £36.5m, and to ensure no loss, United have set a high price for the forward.
Despite this, hope is starting to rise amongst Italian fans that the Dutchman will be making his move from Old Trafford to Stadio Olimpico in the new year.
