Manchester United ‘make’ initial Joshua Zirkzee transfer decision as major sale condition explained

Manchester United will not let Joshua Zirkzee depart from Old Trafford without bringing in a replacement striker to the squad in January.

Manchester United have seen significant changes to their attacking line since the start of the summer transfer window, with significant funds invested in strengthening the attacking threat.

Ruben Amorim made three strong attacking signings as Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha signed for United.

Meanwhile, fans said goodbye to Antony, Marcus Rashford, Jason Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho, who all made their way out of Manchester.

Speculation over Joshua Zirkzee’s exit has grown recently due to a lack of game time for the Dutchman as Amorim continues to trust his new signings. However, according to Football Insider, Zirkzee’s exit would only come on the condition that United can bring in a suitable replacement.

Zirkzee closes in on move back to Serie A

Roma are seen as heavy favourites to be Zirkzee’s next destination as their injury struggles continue to hurt them, with all five recognised forwards suffering injuries this season, including Brighton loanee Evan Ferguson.

The Italian giants currently sit 2nd in the Italian top flight and play a similar style to Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation, so fans can imagine that it could be a smooth transition for Zirkzee.

Zirkzee has also been linked with a move back to his former club, Bologna, where fans will know what Zirkzee can bring to the club.

However, United have already made the decision that they will only sanction a move for Zirkzee away from Old Trafford only on the condition that they can bring in a suitable replacement, according to Football Insider.

With Amorim’s side looking to reclaim a place in European competition, squad depth will come to be a crucial part of United’s success in the near future.

Can Zirkzee still work out under Amorim?

Zirkzee signed from Bologna in the summer before the 2024/25 season as Erik ten Hag made his final signings as United manager. Zirkzee arrived in Manchester off the back of an impressive season in the Serie A under Thiago Motta, scoring twelve goals and providing six assists.

Unfortunately for him, this form didn’t carry into his United career as he had a slow start from Old Trafford, with fans doubting the ability of the 24-year-old.

However, fans were supportive of Zirkzee as morale improved in the squad and the Dutchman’s performances demonstrated his confidence throughout.

With the recent injury to Sesko, and AFCON coming soon, a door has potentially opened up to Zirkzee to revive his chances of making it as a red. Fans are eager to see the big striker smiling again, but competition in that front line still remains with the likes of Mbeumo, Cunha, Mason Mount and Amad all in competition for a role in the front three.

United’s next game comes at home to Everton as David Moyes looks to put an end to Amorim’s run of five games unbeaten.
