Manchester United have continued to make steps in the winter transfer window with sources in Germany indicating that the club have made a “verbal offer” to sign Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel.

Tel, 19, has seen his appearance numbers for Bayern drop at a significant rate this season under current boss Vincent Kompany, with a move away from the Bundesliga giants heavily touted of late.

The teenage winger had rejected an approach from fellow Premier League side Tottenham earlier this week, despite a £50.1million agreement being made between Bayern and the London side.

According to Sky Sports Germany, a verbal offer has now been made for the French youth team international. Reporter Florian Plettenberg expanded on that offer, confirming that United have indicated to Bayern that they are considering making a loan offer to sign the attacker.

What this means for Manchester United’s future

With the potential loan signing of Mathys Tel, it is expected that any move will come with an option to buy the talented winger on a permanent deal in the summer of this year.

Fabrizio Romano has posted on several occasions that United are “keen” to ensure any move that sees Tel come to Old Trafford, will include the chance to make the deal permanent.

For INEOS, this shows a clear plan to ensure that the majority of signings will be youth-focused, with greater attention given to stabilising United’s long-term future.

At just nineteen years of age, Tel’s potential arrival is just the next in a sea of future-focused signings made by INEOS. Already in the winter window, United have confirmed the signing of eighteen-year-old Ayden Heaven from Arsenal. Additionally, Patrick Dorgu (20) is set to sign for the club from Serie A side Lecce subject to passing his medical.

In INEOS’ first window at United, the Red Devils would sign teenage defender Leny Yoro, as well as touted wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin.

The six first-team signings made by INEOS so far signed at an average age of just 22 years old, with Noussair Mazraoui being the only name signed past his 25th birthday.

Key departures expected

As INEOS continue on their quest to lower the average age of the Manchester United squad, several members of Ruben Amorim’s squad are expected to leave in the coming months.

Marcus Rashford (27), is reportedly edging closer to a loan move to Aston Villa, with such a move reportedly set to include the option for Villa to buy the Englishman. Rashford’s exit is believed to be crucial to United’s pursuit of Mathys Tel.

Elsewhere in the squad Tom Heaton (38), Jonny Evans (37), Christian Eriksen (32) and Victor Lindelof (30) are all expected to depart when their contracts expire at the end of this season.

Casemiro, who turns 33 this month has also been frequently linked with a move away from Manchester, having started in just four of Amorim’s eighteen games in charge of the Red Devils.
