Manchester United ‘make’ double U-turn with Jadon Sancho to stay at Old Trafford

Manchester United have now seemingly made a double transfer switch, with Jadon Sancho set to stay under Erik ten Hag.

Jadon Sancho’s career at Manchester United seemed to have the writing on the wall following his banishment from the squad by Erik ten Hag at the beginning of the 2023/24 season.

After the Dutch boss revealed he had left Sancho out of a squad to face Arsenal due to poor training performances, the English winger retaliated, claiming this was effectively a lie and that there were alternative reasons.

It was then said in the media that Sancho felt Ten Hag had been playing favourites, with links then made between this reported news and the manager’s insistence on playing Antony despite obvious below-par performances.

Sancho subsequently went on loan to Borussia Dortmund for six months and impressed, but it was unanimously decided that he would be sold in the summer window.

However, following his return to Carrington, Sancho and Ten Hag met to resolve their differences, and the player returned to training—although it was not made clear if he was still for sale.

The latest news from Saudi Arabian outlet Arriyadiyah has now confirmed that United are set to keep Sancho this season as they have informed the Saudi investment fund (PIF), which owns four Saudi Pro League clubs, that Sancho is one of three players whom they will not sell.

This signifies a complete u-turn from the club compared to their view earlier in the year, which stated that sales for Sancho and Mason Greenwood, who has left for Marseille in a £26 million deal, were the priorities at Old Trafford.

The club informed the PIF that two other players—Casemiro and club captain Bruno Fernandes—would not be leaving, but one player who seems to be able to leave on loan is Antony.

After two poor seasons at United, ESPN has claimed that the club is now willing to let Antony leave on loan this summer as long as any club that takes him on board pays his wages, which are said to be around £ 70,000 a week.

With Sancho back in the fold and Amad Diallo now seen as an integral first-team member following fantastic displays towards the end of the last campaign, Antony’s opportunities on the right-wing look increasingly limited.

Following his £85 million transfer from Ajax in 2022, Antony has not lived up to the expectations set by Ten Hag and the club, and a move elsewhere may be the best option for his career. Interest in his signing is yet to be established in the media.
