Manchester United make Alejandro Garnacho statement with latest Napoli message
Manchester United have made their stance clear on Napoli’s growing interest in Alejandro Garnacho in the January transfer window.
Ruben Amorim wants new signings at Manchester United and the only way to do that at the moment is to generate cash from sales or loan departures.
Many players are linked with exits from Old Trafford, including several Academy stars such as Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.
That is not only because they are some of the most valuable assets at the club, but also due to the pure profit United would receive from homegrown player sales.
United fans are understandably very uncomfortable with this idea due to the club’s great history surrounding youth development.
Mainoo is looking unlikely to leave despite interest from Chelsea, with a new contract being lined up for the England international.
However, interest in Garnacho appears to be growing and Italian club Napoli are very interested in signing the 20-year-old.
United make clear Garnacho statement amid Napoli approach
Various reports have explained that Napoli are looking to sign Garnacho for around £40 million to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has joined Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Gianluca Di Marzio has explained that a potential deal remains complicated due United’s demands for the player.
It was detailed that the Reds have set a £70 million price tag and they have made it clear to the Italian outfit that this figure will not be lowered.
This statement from United makes their stance on the situation quite clear. They are not desperate to sell players like Garnacho, who can still contribute in the future, but are willing to listen to offers.
United are no longer in a position to laugh off offers for their players, but they are also not in such a dire financial state where they are forced to sell players for half of what they believe they are worth.
United are not as desperate as some think
It is quite simple for Napoli, who can either pay the full price United are asking for or to look elsewhere. This is not the type of deal where United will be leniant.
Last summer, we saw the Reds ending up accepting a £25 million fee for Jadon Sancho despite initially looking for £40 million – this was because a sale for the player made complete sense.
For someone like Garnacho, the situation is vastly different and so United can hold firm in their approach. If someone decides to pay the money, it would be largely unpopular within the fanbase, but it would at least be a substantial fee to help sign several new players for Amorim.

Otherwise, United will look to keep the Argentine, who has already proven to be a very useful player at Old Trafford even before he has fully developed.
Either way, this seems to be a positive statement from United which shows that while they are open to different ways to generate funds, they are not as desperate as some may suggest.
