Manchester United linked with “stunning” new midfield option, although deal seen as ‘difficult’

Manchester United have been linked with a new midfield option ahead of the January transfer window, although a deal is seen as ‘difficult’.

Manchester United made four new acquisitions during the summer transfer window, although Ruben Amorim’s side opted against any midfield reinforcements.

This decision by the club has been frowned upon during the early stages of the new Premier League season, with the Reds clearly missing a profile or two in the middle of the park.

Many questions have been raised regarding the treatment of Kobbie Mainoo, as well as the misuse of Bruno Fernandes, whose roles at the club have drastically changed since Amorim was introduced.

It is now being rumoured that Amorim’s side will look to bring in a new midfielder as early as the January window, and a new option has been identified.

Bellingham deal ‘difficult’

As reported by talkSPORT, a new potential option for United could be a deal for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham.

This deal is seen as difficult, especially if it is to be done mid-season, given the fact that the Englishman only joined the German outfit in the summer.

Crystal Palace are also believed to be long-term admirers of the “stunning” 20-year-old midfielder, despite his turbulent start to life at Dortmund.

Bellingham helped his former side, Sunderland, to achieve promotion to the Premier League, but has since failed to either score or assist in any of his nine appearances in Germany so far.

Where would Bellingham fit in?

Given Bellingham’s profile as an attacking midfielder, it may be questioned where he would fit in Amorim’s system, especially considering the likes of Fernandes and Mason Mount.

As he plays a similar position to Mount, it would be likely that Bellingham would find himself either in one of the wide ten roles or in a deeper role like the position that United’s captain has taken up.

Although in saying this, the Dortmund midfielder would more than likely be brought in as additional depth, as there would be little chance of him displacing either of Matheus Cunha or Fernandes.

Despite the Englishman’s difficult start to life since leaving Sunderland in the summer, a move to United, if at the right price, could be a more than viable option as the Reds pursue additional midfield depth.
