Manchester United legend says “unique” star is “delighting” Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim has been learning important things about his Manchester United players since taking charge in November.

Manchester United appointed Ruben Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s replacement earlier this season and he has since taken charge of 13 games.

Results have been mixed during this period, but Amorim has been able to make clear assessments about many of his players.

One of those has been Amad, who has impressed under the new head coach so far and signed a new contract at Old Trafford earlier this month.

Amad has six goals and seven assists so far this term and will be eager to keep his solid form going for the rest of the season.

Pallister praises Amad at United

United legend Gary Pallister has been extremely complementary of Amad, who he believes to be a “unique” talent at the club.

Pallister also claimed that Amorim will be delighted by the level the 22-year-old has shown during his tenure so far.

“Amad Diallo is a unique player for Manchester United,” the ex-defender told Betano.

“He’s been outstanding, at the start of the season he was playing like a player who wasn’t sure of his place in the side despite playing well at the back end of last season.

“I don’t know what Erik ten Hag wasn’t seeing in him. He’s turned into a player who really owns that shirt. He’s become an integral part of Amorim’s side and the best player on the pitch in the last few weeks.

“He’s been terrific. His work rate is tremendous and he’s aggressive and physical enough despite being quite slight. He’s ticking all the boxes, and I’m sure Amorim is delighted for him. He’s got a big future.”

Amad’s best position at United

It is a great sign of how quickly Amad has risen at United that the question surrounding his name in recent weeks has not been whether he will play, but which position is his best.

Not too long ago, some fans were doubting whether he would ever really show his quality at United and now they are arguing about whether he is better at right-wingback or in the front three.

He has played plenty of games in both positions under Amorim so far but has not operated in the deeper role for several weeks now.

It appears that Amorim favours the Ivorian in the frontline but it was also clear that Amad shined on the flank, where he could help progression in deeper areas as well as flying forward on the right side.

Perhaps the limited options of players in those no.10 positions are influencing Amorim’s decision-making in this aspect. It is quite clear that United are better when an attacking-minded player is in one of the wingback spaces.

Hopefully, United are able to solve that problem with a mid-season signing, allowing Amad to continue flourishing in the frontline.
