“Real threat…” Manchester United legend claims £50k-a-week star reminds him of Ryan Giggs
Legendary Manchester United defender Gary Pallister has revealed one of Rúben Amorim’s stars reminds him of former winger Ryan Giggs.
Manchester United‘s 2024/25 campaign has so far been one of the poorest in recent memory, with former manager Erik ten Hag facing the sack after leaving the club 14th in the Premier League table.
They were also languishing 21st in the Europa League, but a short stint from interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has lifted the club to 13th and 15th in the respective competitions.

Now, new head coach Rúben Amorim is set to take charge of his first team on Sunday, 24 November, as they face Ipswich Town.
The 39-year-old has been presiding over training this week and will use what he’s seen so far, as well as footage from earlier this season, to select his first XI.
A star like Ryan Giggs
Aside from the poor results at the club, Alejandro Garnacho has been having a productive season.
The 20-year-old has scored seven goals and provided five assists already this season, involving himself in more goals across all competitions than any other United player.
After scoring ten goals and providing five assists last campaign, he is well on his way to beating his current season’s best, and former United defender Gary Pallister has explained that Garnacho reminds him of all-time United appearance maker Ryan Giggs.
“Alejandro Garnacho reminds me a little bit of Ryan Giggs when Giggs played on the right – the way he’d come in off the touchline onto his favoured foot and open things up,” Pallister told TG Casino.
“Garnacho can go both ways and is aggressive when he has the ball, which is a real bonus and a problem for opponents.
“I think that’s something that’s been aimed at Antony since he joined Manchester United – he predominantly tries to cut inside and hit that wonder strike into the top corner, but you need to be able to threaten defenders both ways to be effective like Garnacho is. Garnacho is still a work in progress, but he’s a real threat and can score goals.
Garnacho will improve
Despite his numbers, Garnacho has been on the end of criticism after recent performances saw the player fail to score in big fixtures such as against Chelsea, but Pallister is confident the Argentina international will improve.
“People talk about his final ball and decision-making, but that’ll come with time because he’s still a young player,” Pallister continued.
“He’s definitely been one of the more positive stories for Manchester United over the past couple of seasons, and the way he goes about his game is a breath of fresh air sometimes.”
