Manchester United learn how much Vanja Milinkovic-Savic will cost as they ‘enter talks’ for André Onana replacement

Manchester United have discovered how much it will take to sign Vanja Milinkovic-Savic as they enter talks to sign André Onana’s replacement.

Manchester United are highly likely to invest in the goalkeeping department in the upcoming summer transfer window.

This season has seen United’s first-choice goalkeeper, André Onana, face heavy criticism over his performances between the sticks.

Rúben Amorim has backed his first-choice keeper strongly throughout the season. However, suppose the Portuguese manager puts faith in the Cameroon international to guard the net next season.

In that case, there may still need to be a replacement for Altay Bayındır, who is expected to depart this summer for regular first-team football.

United’s third-choice keeper, Tom Heaton, is currently in negotiations to extend his stay at Old Trafford, but with an agreement by no means finalised and his current contract set to expire at the end of next month,

United make Milinkovic-Savic contact as release clause revealed

The Red Devils have reportedly had a microscope on ex-academy player Vanja Milinkovic-Savic in recent weeks, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that a potential re-signing could be on the cards after United enquired about how much it would take to sign the 28-year-old this summer.

According to Tuttosport, the Serbian has a £17 million release clause, which would appear as a harsh loss for so little money for Torino following the 6ft 8 inch keeper’s heroics this season in the Serie A.

Various clubs in Italy have been rumoured to be monitoring the keeper following his excellent displays this season. With word breaking on the lowly priced release clause, this summer may see an influx of clubs battling it out for the 28-year-old’s signature, as Chelsea and Manchester City have also been credited with interest.

Remarkably, Milenkovic-Savic was signed by United in 2014 but was released in 2016 due to a failed work permit application.

Milenkovic-Savic’s season by numbers

Torino sits in 11th place in the Serie A. With 36 games played thus far, Milenkovic-Savic has managed to keep 11 clean sheets (33%). II Toro have conceded 39, meaning the Serbian concedes an average of 1.08 goals per game.

Compared to the situation at United, Onana has kept nine clean sheets (27%) and conceded 1.3 goals per game.

The Serb makes an average of 3.53 saves per game and has prevented 9.59 goals this season, maintaining a save percentage of 76.5%, whereas Onana makes an average of 2.7 saves per game and has prevented 0.70 goals with a save percentage of 67%.

It is unknown whether the Serbian stopper will be keen to return to Old Trafford to battle it out for the number one spot, but if you compare the stopper’s performances to the lowly release clause on his head, it’s increasingly likely United won’t be the only club battling it out for the stopper’s signature this summer.
