Manchester United learn about Harry Kane’s £54m release clause, he has “unfinished business” in Premier League
Harry Kane could return to the Premier League as Manchester United have learned about a release clause in his Bayern Munich contract.
Manchester United have scored just 28 goals in the Premier League so far this season despite playing 24 fixtures.
Ruben Amorim’s side have struggled to find the back of the net in games and it has been a problem stretching back since Erik ten Hag’s arrival at the club.
Marcus Rashford’s 30-goal campaign in 2022/23 helped the problem but it has been evident for far too long that United are not clinical enough up front.
They will be eyeing signings in the summer window to fix this problem and signing Harry Kane from Bayern Munich could be the exact solution they need.
United learn about Kane release clause
According to a new report from Bild, the ex-Tottenham striker has a release clause inserted into his Bayern Munich contract, and this was then supported by Telegraph sources.
It was explained that Kane could have left Germany in the January transfer window for £67 million and that will be reduced to £54 million next winter.
The report also clarified that Spurs secured a first-option agreement as part of Kane’s £100 million transfer to the Bundesliga giants.
But they would have to match the release clause price or another club’s offer, as well as being Kane’s preferred destination.
The report added that Kane could feel like he has “unfinished business” in the Premier League – being only 47 goals behind Alan Shearer’s record as top goalscorer.
United must try and sign Kane from Bayern
This follows on from reports claiming that United are planning to strengthen their frontline in the summer after neglecting the position in the January window.
It is a no-brainer for the Reds to test the waters with a deal for Kane in the summer or in January 2026 where they could secure him for around £50 million, with the England international being the perfect experienced striker they are looking for.
Even though the £54 million release clause would not be active until next year, it would provide a potential starting point for negotiations in the summer if Kane wanted to leave Germany – the aforementioned report explained that Bayern have already started preparing for life without the English talisman.
United missed out on him in the summer of 2023 and he has since scored 70 goals in 72 games for Bayern Munich while their two strikers have a combined five goals in the Premier League this season.

Kane would be 32 years of age if he joined United next season but he has never relied on his pace and would still provide guaranteed goals for multiple years in a team that have been missing a final third threat for too long.
It would also be a move that suits the likes of Rasmus Højlund, who would be better suited to a backup role behind someone like Kane as he learns from the veteran striker.
INEOS have prioritised signing young and exciting talent since arriving at Old Trafford but they need some ready-made quality and Kane would certainly bring that.
