Concerns over Manchester United’s midfield depth have seen a Brazil international emerge as a potential partner for Manuel Ugarte at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s summer rebuild has gathered momentum under new manager Rúben Amorim, with INEOS overseeing a fresh direction both on and off the pitch.
But despite the early progress, there are still concerns in midfield where the squad still lack of balance and depth ahead of a demanding season.
The signing of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, in a deal worth around £50 m was a step in the right direction.
Yet even with Ugarte on board, the overall picture is far from complete. Amorim’s 3-4-3 system has required midfielders who can do more than just disrupt play from the opponent.
To play the football that Amorim wants United need another midfielder, the one who complements Ugarte’s strengths and offers control, progression, also composure.
United keep tabs on Ederson Silva move amid midfield concerns
Ederson has emerged as one of Serie A most dynamic midfielders, playing a key role in Atalanta’s resurgence with his aggressive pressing and ability to link defence to attack.
The 25-year-old is expected to carry a price tag of around £52m this summer, a reflection of his growing importance to Gasperini’s side.
According to GIVEMESPORT, Man United are considering a move for Ederson if they manage to secure Champions League qualification by winning the Europa League this season, a scenario that would provide both the financial flexibility and competitive appeal needed to convince the player.
Atalanta, however, are reluctant to let him go cheaply—especially given his standout campaign in Serie A. With two years left on his contract and a salary of around £42,000 per week, United could look to use his situation as leverage in negotiations.
If United are serious about bolstering their midfield with Ederson’s calibre, any potential deal would require strategic thinking and clear planning from the club’s hierarchy.
Big names player won’t be enough for United revival
While United’s interest in Éderson signals serious intent under the new regime led by Rúben Amorim and INEOS, history has shown that marquee signings alone rarely guarantee long-term success at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have spent the past decade chasing quick fixes—splashing significant fees on big names with the hope of immediate impact—only to find themselves trapped in another cycle of inconsistency and underachievement.
Amorim’s success in his previous roles came not from spending the cash, but from creating a clear identity and ensuring every player served a purpose within his system. That philosophy must carry through at Old Trafford if lasting progress is to be made.

In a summer that could define the next era, United must prioritise profile over popularity and bringing in players who suit the style, buy into the vision and complement the pieces already in place.
Because if there’s one lesson the last few seasons have taught, it’s this: big names alone won’t be enough to bring back the glory days.
