Manchester United joined by European elites in pursuit of ‘breakout’ 18-year-old wonderkid

Manchester United are being joined by some of Europe’s elite sides as they pursue an 18-year-old ‘breakout star’.

The past few weeks have seen Manchester United’s season take a drastic turn for the better, with the Reds winning three consecutive Premier League matches against tough opposition.

Ruben Amorim was under a lot of pressure as the season started, but he seems to have turned a corner recently, and will be hoping to continue his side’s excellent form when they face Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

A lot of United’s fine form of late can be attributed to their summer recruitment, with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Senne Lammens all impressing lately.

In the hopes of continuing their excellent recruitment, the Reds have started to monitor one of Europe’s top breakout stars, although they are met with some tough competition.

United monitoring wonderkid

As reported on X by Ben Heckner, United are among three top European sides that are closely monitoring the situation of Kerim Alajbegovic from Red Bull Salzburg.

The Austrian Bundesliga wonderkid is being labelled as a ‘breakout star’ as he is the youngest Bosnian international and goalscorer ever.

Bayer Leverkusen have a buy-back clause for the 18-year-old Bosnian, although the price of this is not specified in the report. The other sides interested are Chelsea and FC Porto.

In the early stages of what appears to be Alajbegovic’s breakout season, the young winger has notched six goals and one assist across all competitions for Salzburg.

United’s youngster pathway is growing

With news breaking of United’s interest in Alajbegovic, it is clear that the Reds are putting a lot of their focus on building a strong core for the future.

United are renowned for their infamous Academy and for how they promote their youngsters into the first team, so having a plethora of young talent is crucial to their operation.

The likes of Shea Lacey, Chido Obi, and JJ Gabriel are all causing a stir within the academy ranks at the moment due to their impressive developments, so adding another talent in Alajbegovic would be exciting for the club.

United may not be in desperate need of young attacking talents at the moment, but the potential of Salzburg’s young Bosnian may be difficult to pass up on.
