As Manchester United’s search for a new striker this summer goes on, interest in one of Europe’s most exciting strikers is heating up.
Following on from the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, Manchester United are now expected to target an out-and-out number nine.
Ruben Amorim’s intentions going into this summer were obvious: completely change United’s forward line, and the two forwards so far will be encouraging signs for Amorim.
The pair scored 35 goals between them last season, just nine short of United’s 44 total Premier League goals scored as a club.
A whole host of different strikers have been linked with the club, with the likes of Viktor Gyökeres and Hugo Ekitike being associated with moves to United before rejecting the club, opting for moves elsewhere.
United reignite interest for Šeško
United have been following Benjamin Šeško closely for several years now, having already approached him before he made the move to RB Leipzig in 2023.
Now, as reported by AbsolutFussball, United have intensified their pursuit of Šeško after a potential move to Arsenal fell through.
One key advantage that United hold is that Christopher Vivell, the club’s Head of Recruitment, spent seven years in various positions within the Red Bull group and knows the player well.
The Slovenian international has a release clause of around £60-70 million, and with his contract running until 2029, negotiations could be tough for the talented 22-year-old.
Sesko open to a move
As reported by GiveMeSport, despite interest from elsewhere, Šeško would favour a move to Manchester United over other potential destinations.
Despite the clear intent to strengthen the front line, the message to potential signings has been clear, the club must sell before they can buy, with all incomings being informed of the club’s current financial situation.
Šeško’s playing style has been likened to that of Erling Haaland, and after letting the now Man City striker slip through their fingers, United may have a chance to rectify a mistake from a couple of seasons ago and sign the next extremely talented striker emerging from the Bundesliga.
With the departure of Marcus Rashford to Barcelona signed off his week, and Jadon Sancho looking likely to follow soon after, United will have parted ways with two of the five players that weren’t part of Amorim’s plans going into next season.
Šeško’s agent has previously stated that his client will only consider leaving RB Leipzig for a “special club” this summer, and Amorim’s project may fit the bill.
