Manchester United ‘in talks’ for Serie A defender as club seeks £67 million mega-sale

Manchester United are reportedly ‘in talks’ for one of Serie A’s top defenders, as his club seeks to make £67 million from the sale of their star players.

With Rúben Amorim looking to strengthen his Manchester United squad ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, many names are being thrown into the ring for potential summer signings.

Due to missing out on European football, many of United’s top-end targets have become less feasible, meaning that more affordable alternatives will likely be considered instead.

United have already completed the £62.5 million signing of their number one target Matheus Cunha as they look to bolster their misfiring attack. This expensive signature, however, will have put a heavy dent in the summer transfer budget.

This being said, it has been reported that Amorim’s side have entered talks with Italian side Udinese who are looking to sell one of their star players for £25m.

United in talks for Udinese’s Solet

As reported by Italian outlet Messaggero Veneta, United have been in talks over recruiting Oumar Solet, who may be seeking an exit from Udinese in the summer.

Udinese could attempt to make £67 million from the sales of Lorenzo Lucca, Jaka Bijol, and Solet as the club looks likely to change hands to the Americans.

When speaking on Solet, expert Udinese agent Claudio Pasqualin stated: “Solet has made a great impression and would also be good at Inter and Juventus, but in general, there’s more money in the Premier League.”

The Sun reported on this and suggested that United have been in talks over recruiting the ex-RB Salzburg and Lyon star, while Bournemouth has also been linked with his signature.

Defensive reinforcement needed for Amorim?

Heading into the summer window, it is clear that United’s priority is to bolster their attack, already sealing the Cunha deal, as well as now looking at the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and a handful of strikers.

As their budget for the summer will be funded predominantly through player sales, United may need to be savvy with how they spend their money, and bringing in defenders may make unnecessary dents in the purse.

The resurgence of Harry Maguire and the breakthrough of Ayden Heaven mean that United’s central defensive options look far healthier now than they have in recent times.

Therefore, the purchase of another centre-back may not be the wisest decision.
