Manchester United have received an important update on one transfer, with a deadline for a deal communicated.

The Reds have made two signings so far this summer, with Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee joining the club.

However, further additions are needed in several positions within Erik ten Hag’s squad. The Premier League campaign kicks off next Friday.

After Yoro suffered a three-month injury during a pre-season fixture against Arsenal, United are now desperate to sign another centre-back.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelöf are both doubts heading into the Community Shield against Manchester City, which could leave Lisandro Martínez and Jonny Evans as the only fit centre-backs.

Matthijs de Ligt has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford move and has reportedly agreed personal terms with the club.

However, the transfer is currently stalled after Bayern Munich rejected United’s double offer for the Dutchman and Noussair Mazraoui.

This could change in the coming days, though, with Bild reporting that Bayer Leverkusen have given Bayern a deadline to finalise the signing of Jonathan Tah as they want clarity for their squad planning.

It was added that if there is no offer for the layer by the weekend, Leverkusen will keep Tah.

How this impacts United

This should provide clarity over De Ligt’s situation in the coming days. Bayern’s plan was to sell De Ligt and use that money to sign the Leverkusen star.

Similarly to United, they need to sell to buy this summer and they will likely not want to miss out on their no.1 target.

This could mean that United’s pursuit of De Ligt is sped up in the coming days. Many will be hoping that a deal can be struck in time for the Premier League season opener.
