Manchester United identify four January striker targets, Fabrizio Romano says one is ‘one to watch’
Manchester United have identified a four-man list of potential striker targets for the January transfer window.
The Reds are working to address their struggles at Old Trafford as they remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Ruben Amorim’s current squad does not align with his preferred style of play, particularly in two key areas: the wingback positions and in the forward line.
Wingbacks are crucial to Amorim’s system, but Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have struggled to meet the demands of the position.
As a result, the club is pursuing 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu, a versatile wingback capable of playing on either flank. Negotiations are ongoing for a potential transfer valued at approximately £30 million.
United identify four-man forward list
However, it has now been explained that United are also eyeing a potential second signing in the forward line if further departures happen this month.
MailSport have explained that United will try to sign a new forward before the January deadline if Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford or Kobbie Mainoo leave the club.
It was then detailed that the four main options being looked at are Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Liam Delap and Jonathan David, with club scouts are tracking those players.
A move for one of those players is appearing more likely due to reports surrounding Garnacho in recent days.
Both Chelsea and Napoli are interested in him and it has been claimed that the 20-year-old is very likely to depart Old Trafford this month.
That would open up the possibility of United pursuing a deal for a new forward player. Mbeumo and Cunha would fit the role as inside forwards while Delap and David are more likely to used as out-and-out number nines.
Romano says Cunha transfer is one to watch
It is always difficult to do mid-season deals and those players would likely be difficult to pry away from their current clubs. All four are extremely important for their respective teams.
But it seems like Cunha has the best chance of leaving, with Fabrizio Romano describing the Brazilian forward as ‘one to watch’ in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Contract talks with Wolves have stalled and he was criticised by Vítor Pereira after their latest game. Arsenal’s interest in the 25-year-old is also well-known.
Cunha has previously had interest from the club last summer. “It’s a real honour to have your name linked to Manchester United,” he admitted in a viral video. “One of the biggest clubs in the world.”
