Manchester United have reportedly held club-to-club talks for a long-term summer transfer target who could be loaned back out this summer.
Manchester United are now hunting for their fifth signing this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to continue his rebuild at Old Trafford.
United’s spending has already reached around £200 million in the 2025 summer window, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Diego Leon costing around £130 million, having all joined before the Team’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Following the Premier League Summer Series win, United reached an agreement with RB Leipzig for 22-year-old Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško for £66 million and a further £7.5 million in add-ons.
With Šeško set to be announced on Saturday afternoon, United are reportedly aiming to secure a new midfielder, with a goalkeeper also signing if the conditions allow.
United holding talks for Lammens
According to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, United held talks last week with Royal Antwerp for Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
The “brilliant” shotstopper has been touted as one of the best goalkeeping prospects in world football, boasting an increidble 84% save percentage in the Belgian Pro League last season.
Various reports have stated in the last few months that the 23-year-old would be available for around £17 million this summer, which is an incredibly attractive price for United.
Antwerp’s sporting director, Marc Overmars, has already admitted that Lammens is set to leave this summer as they have already signed his replacement, which would make negotiations for the player much easier.
United could sign Lammens and loan him out
Jacobs continued by explaining that Lammens’ transfer currently hinges on the future of United’s current second-choice Altay Bayındır, as he would need to be shifted if Lammens were to join Amorim’s squad.
However, it was also mentioned that the club may consider signing Lammens and loaning him to the first team to gain experience, with Bayındır and/or the first-choice option, André Onana, potentially leaving next summer.

“If Bayındır stays, there’s even a scenario where they say to Antwerp, ‘we’ll pre-agree it or we’ll loan him back to you and then he’ll come in a year’s time’,” Jacobs told The United Stand.
“Because ifBayındır stays, then Senne Lammens might be better suited continuing at Antwerp or even being sent on loan somewhere else. So this is an internal conversation at the moment.
“It’s not urgent until Bayındır finds another club regarding the young number two, and nobody else is sort of hijacking that Senne Lammens deal.”
