Manchester United ‘hold talks’ with Championship wonderkid for 2026 transfer amid Arsenal interest

Manchester United have reportedly held talks with a wonderkid from the Championship who is also attracting interest from Arsenal.

Manchester United have been in superb form since Michael Carrick stepped in as interim boss through to the end of the campaign.

The Reds put together an impressive four-game winning streak against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur, before battling to a deserved point away at West Ham on Tuesday night.

While results are key for United right now, the club will also be focusing on some other things ahead of the summer, including the search for their next manager and transfer targets.

It could be a crucial summer window for the club, especially if the qualify for the Champions League, and there are some targets already emerging.

United ‘hold talks’ with Championship wonderkid for 2026 transfer

According to a report from TEAMTalk, United have entered the race to sign highly rated England youth international Igor Tyjon but it is claimed that Arsenal are leading the race.

The Blackburn Rovers youngster is expected to leave the Championship outfit when his current contract at Ewood Park expires at the end of the season, sparking a battle for his signature ahead of the summer of 2026.

Arsenal have tracked Tyjon for more than a year and have already seen three bids rejected, the latest arriving during the January transfer window. The report claims they are determined to sign the forward and still hold the strongest position in the race.

However, United are pushing to change that narrative. The Red Devils have held discussions over a potential move to Old Trafford in 2026 and have presented their long-term development plan in a bid to convince the teenager that his pathway to senior football would be best served in Manchester.

While Arsenal remain in pole position for now, United’s late push ensures the race for one of England’s most promising young talents is far from over.

United’s strategy is clear

United made a clear recruitment shift when INEOS took control at Old Trafford and they wanted to ensure that they bring in the most exciting talents.

Sekou Kone, Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven are clear examples of that recruitment strategy at work, and the signing of Tyjon would be another step in that direction.

The club have also acknowledged the need for experience through the summer signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, but it remains clear that they want to build a young and exciting squad for the future.

There are also many talented prospects already in the building, and fans will be interested to see how players like Shea Lacey and Harry Amass develop in the future.
