Manchester United have identified a new surprise Premier League midfielder holding talks over a deal as the need for strength in the core of the squad increases
Manchester United have relied on the cemented partnership of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro to be the core of Ruben Amorim’s persistent 3-4-2-1 formation.
But with Casemiro coming towards the end of his contract, he is only expected to stay on the basis that he takes a significant pay-cut.
United have identified many potential recruits to strengthen their midfield as they look to earn their spot back in the Champions League. Ruben Amorim’s side are currently sat on 22 points in the Premier League in a close race for European football.
The most recent United fixture saw a disappointing 1-1 draw to West Ham as Diogo Dalot scored United’s only goal. The game saw Amorim bring on Manuel Ugarte, who many believe has underperformed so far as a red.
Meanwhile Kobbie Mainoo remained as an unused sub as he struggles to find his role in Amorim’s side. The club has identified a new target to revive United’s midfield.
United hold talks over Tyler Adams deal
Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams has been an imperative part of Andoni Iraola’s side’s success in the top flight as they hunt for European football too.
According to the Daily Mail, United have approached Bournemouth to discuss a potential move in the upcoming transfer windows.
The midfielder signed for the Cherries in 2023 from Leeds but injuries held him back from being ablate replicate the heights he showed at Elland Road. However, since returning from injury spells, his return has been pivotal for Bournemouth.
The American notably scored rom the halfway line against Sunderland this season, but the 26-year-old excels at ball winning as well as progressing up the pitch.
Whilst Adams could be a huge boost to United’s midfield in 2026, interest has notion beyond initial talks yet.
Adams could force Mainoo out
Mainoo has an undeniable talent as shown by his time under Erik ten Hag, where the 20-year-old earned a consistent spot in the starting XI and got himself into England’s Euro 2024 squad, becoming a starter in the final.
Since the arrival of Amorim, Mainoo does not appear to be suited to the necessary profiles of the system. This could see the midfielder depart from Old Trafford, most likely on loan to secure game-time as he would aim to get into Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup squad.
Adams has a similar frame to Mainoo both being nimble, but Adam’s work off the ball could prove to be crucial for United with his energetic style.
Other potential midfield options include, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson, who are also highly rated Premier League proven midfielders, but would likely require heavy price tags.
