Manchester United hit with immediate transfer blow after “dream” Rúben Amorim move became impossible

Manchester United have been hit with an immediate transfer blow after they started to scout the market for Carlos Baleba transfer alternatives.

Manchester United have been linked with countless midfielders this summer transfer window, with some of Europe’s top talents exploring a move away from their current club.

This comes after Rúben Amorim and the team highlighted a goalkeeper and a central midfielder as priority targets for the remainder of the transfer window.

Carlos Baleba was the reported “dream” midfield signing this transfer window; however, a deal for the Cameroonian looks implausible heading into the final weeks of the summer window, with a move seeming more likely next summer.

Now attention shifts to other possible acquisitions, which come with many false rumours, and a Bundesliga and German international has fallen victim.

Sky Sports Germany shuts down Stiller rumours

After it was reported yesterday that German international Angelo Stiller was being discussed internally by United, Sky Sports Germany correspondent Florian Plettenburg shut down rumours of a potential transfer.

“There are no internal or external discussions, nor any concrete plans regarding a United move for Stiller before Deadline Day. He will go into this season with VfB Stuttgart. His contract runs until 2028. Top player.” Plettenburg commented on X (formerly Twitter).

Stiller, who was linked with Real Madrid at the start of the transfer window, had an impressive season for Stuttgart last year, capturing the attention of Europe’s elite.

Despite this, United have yet to include Stiller as a potential target for Amorim’s midfield, and will likely look elsewhere, with just days left until the end of the transfer window.

Stiller alternatives Amorim may favour

The club and manager Amorim have emphasised the importance of signing a new central midfielder this season, and with the Baleba move not financially viable, the club have identified a few targets for alternatives.

Morten Hjulmand is a player greatly appreciated by Amorim; the two shared a good relationship at Sporting and have praised each other in the media since. Hjulmand is a fantastic, physical player and would definitely improve the midfield.

Lucien Agoume has been linked with the club recently, with a reported £35 million release clause enticing top clubs. The Frenchman excelled at Sevilla last season and could be a perfect player to complement Bruno Fernandes in the midfield double pivot.

Adam Wharton and Ederson are players also rumoured to have been discussed by the club, yet, as the case for all of these players, a move has not been made by the Reds heading into the final weeks of the transfer window.
