Manchester United are having doubts over the potential signing of Erik ten Hag favourite Matthijs de Ligt in the summer transfer window.

De Ligt, 24, has been linked to an Old Trafford move in recent weeks, and whilst a January transfer is off the cards, it has been reported that he could leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

United boss Ten Hag is ‘very interested’ in signing his former Ajax defender, who has since played for Juventus and the German giants.

De Ligt’s relationship with current Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel has been described as ‘tense’.

However, reports from Fussball News have stated that United will ‘take the necessary time’ to make a decision on whether to move for the defender.

This is because there are ‘doubts’ over the player who worked under Ten Hag for two years before his move to Juventus in 2019.

The report explained that United are concerned about De Ligt’s recent injury record. He has missed 16 games since the start of last season and The Reds have had their own issues at the back with injury this term.

There are also question marks over whether De Ligt could survive in the intensity of the Premier League.

United are aware that the defender lacks pace and that it could be a problem adding him to a back line that does not already have much speed.

De Ligt would also likely cost over £50 million with several years still left on his contract. United have also been linked to other defenders since Sir Jim Ratcliffe took charge.
