Manchester United have ‘never hidden’ their interest in Serie A star, Chelsea rivaling Rúben Amorim for January swoop

Manchester United are reportedly looking at signing another striker in 2026 as Rúben Amorim looks to patch up his goalscoring problems.

Manchester United have scored in all but two of their fixtures so far this season, but have ultimately fallen short of expectations in front of goal.

Rúben Amorim’s side have taken more shots (81) and collected a higher expected goals (10.13 xG) than any other side in the Premier League so far this season, but sit joint-sixth in the goal-scoring charts with seven other sides who also have six to their name.

United signed a new-look front three last summer, spending over £180 million on bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško. Still, only the former Brentford man has managed to notch a goal for United to date.

The trio are yet to start a Premier League game together, with many hoping that the upcoming tie against Brentford represents their first outing from the first whistle, but finishing their chances remains an issue for Amorim’s side.

United considering Vlahovic swoop

While there was plenty of transfer drama swirling around the Premier League last summer, one of the more interesting sagas on the continent was that of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.

The Serbian international almost had his contract terminated at the Bianconeri as they wanted him and his wages out of the club, but he ultimately stayed.

Since then, the Serie A striker has provided four goals and one assist in five appearances, including a stunning two goals and one assist in 60 minutes in a 4-4 Champions League draw vs Borussia Dortmund.

United were offered the player last summer but declined once they decided to sign Šeško instead, but a fresh report from Gazzetta dello Sport has detailed that Amorim’s side have ‘never hidden’ their interest in Vlahovic and are expected to return for him in 2026.

According to the report, the Serb will certainly be leaving Juventus when his contract expires next summer, but could also leave in January as Juventus would be willing to cash in for a nominal fee rather than lose him for free six months later.

United would need to fight Chelsea for Vlahovic

However, United are not the only side keeping a close eye on the situation, with Gazzetta dello Sport also reporting that Chelsea are the other club who are ‘above all’ others when it comes to interest in the 25-year-old.

It’s claimed that Juventus are aiming to sell him to either Amorim or Enzo Maresca’s side this winter, and that the player’s wages would not be an issue.

Amorim is known to be keen to have experienced strikers in his squad, and Vlahovic’s 134 career goals in 307 appearances certainly fit the bill.

However, the Old Trafford side have also been tentatively linked with Bayern Munich star man Harry Kane, who has a £54 million release clause that can be activated from January onward.

Although Vlahovic would be the cheaper option for United and is seven years younger than Kane, the English forward’s status as an elite striker with an extensive Premier League pedigree would do a lot to improve United’s goalscoring chances.
