Manchester United have reportedly performed a U-turn on one of their current midfielders, who Rúben Amorim now wants to offload this summer.
Manchester United are preparing for a significant summer overhaul as they look to support Rúben Amorim by raising funds through player sales. The club plan to part ways with several first-team players who are no longer seen as a fit for the direction Amorim intends to take.
Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are both set to leave once their contracts expire at the end of the season. Neither are expected to be offered new deals as United begin to reshape the squad.
The club will also look to offload loaned-out players, with Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia all likely to be placed on the transfer list. None are thought to be part of Amorim’s long-term plans.
Casemiro is another player possibly heading for the exit, as the club shifts towards a younger, more dynamic profile better suited to Amorim’s tactical approach, while his current wage is a significant drain on the club’s resources.
United ignoring Amorim’s “best player” admission
Casemiro’s future has been one to watch over the last few months, with the 33-year-old having reestablished himself as a key figure within Amorim’s side and being the catalyst for the stunning comeback against Olympique Lyonnais earlier this month.
The Brazilian’s resurgence has been so much so that Amorim used him as an example of a player who has changed his mind. “Casemiro is the best example,” the head coach commented last week, insinuating that he now sees the midfielder as one of his best players.
“He wasn’t playing, and then you see the last games, he’s having a part, he’s performing quite well, he’s playing all the time. I like to change my mind, if they change my mind, I like that, I want to put the best players in my team.”
However, a new report from FootballInsider has claimed that, despite Amorim’s admission, United remain ready to let Casemiro leave this summer.
Due to his high wages, United will have to consider selling him this summer if they receive any offer deemed suitable for his services. With Casemiro’s current deal set to expire in 2026, the upcoming summer window may be the last opportunity to command a transfer fee for the player.
Casemiro is still playing a key role at United
Despite the uncertainties surrounding Casemiro’s future, he has found himself playing a key role under Amorim.

His exemplary display against Lyon, where he won a penalty that Bruno Fernandes converted before assisting Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire for their respective equalising and winning efforts, is proof that his winning mentality is still a significant part of United’s dressing room.
With United facing Spanish side Athletic Club in their biggest game of the season on Thursday evening, Casemiro will no doubt be called upon to help guide the club through the fixture, calling on his knowledge from 12 years of playing with Real Madrid.
The Europa League is one trophy Casemiro has never secured throughout his illustrious career, and he will no doubt be keen to add the title to his collection, having won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup with United so far at Old Trafford.
