Manchester United have already identified four priority targets for Ruben Amorim’s squad ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ruben Amorim has been unable to turn around a difficult period at Manchester United this season, with problems of his squad adapting to the new system.

A lack of quality options has left the Portuguese coach in a really troubling place, with youngsters often having to fill the bench.

The summer window is going to be very important for United as the club’s chiefs look to make several signings to improve Amorim’s squad.

United also need to be smart in the upcoming transfer window, particularly in the profile of player that they target for the squad.

No longer will the Reds have a scatter-gun approach in terms of who they sign – INEOS and Amorim want to ensure they are signing the right players to fit into the long-term plan.

That also includes identifying the most important positions that need to be strengthened, and this has been a topic discussed between Amorim and the club’s chiefs in meetings this month.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the main priorities discussed in those meetings have been a striker, no.10, midfielder and centre-back.

“For sure, even during the recent meetings, Man United remain convinced about the priority targets including a new striker and at least one more offensive player to play behind the number nine next season,” he told GiveMeSport.

“While in midfield there could also be movements with an exit for Casemiro expected to happen in the summer.

“But centre-back could be another move for Manchester United; sources guarantee that Ruben Amorim has also indicated this position as one more to cover in the upcoming months, and Man United directors have recently started making some calls to enquire about centre-backs available in the summer.”

United not focused on wingback additions

Of course, United were also targeting Geovany Quenda for the summer until Chelsea swooped in and signed the Sporting star this week.

He would have been an upgrade at right wingback but it seems like United are not desperate to strengthen that area of the pitch.

Amad played at wingback multiple times before his injury and it could be his longer-term position under Amorim.

Although it does feel like there needs to be at least one wingback addition, because the style of play relies on them so much and United’s only impressive options are Amad and Patrick Dorgu.
