Manchester United might have found the “perfect” signing for Ruben Amorim after the manager’s recent request to technical director Jason Wilcox.
Ruben Amorim took charge at Manchester United last November and since then he has experienced major difficulties in overseeing improvement at Old Trafford.
It has become clear that the club need to support Amorim in the summer transfer window with both signings and sales from the first-team squad.
With the Portuguese boss trying to implement a new style at United, there are several areas in the squad which could do with improvements.
Those in charge of recruitment, such as Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell, are already planning ahead for the summer and have several positions they believe need to be strengthened in the transfer window.
Romano notes Amorim’s request to Wilcox
Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Amorim and the United board have held initial discussions about summer transfer targets, with the head coach identifying an unexpected priority.
According to the Italian journalist, Amorim has requested that Wilcox, who will oversee United’s transfer dealings, secures another centre-back in the upcoming window.
Despite the recent arrivals of Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven, the club is “seriously considering” adding another defender to bolster Amorim’s preferred three-at-the-back system.
With Victor Lindelöf and Jonny Evans both anticipated to depart in the summer and Lisandro Martínez sidelined with a long-term knee injury, at least one defensive reinforcement is seen as essential.
United identify perfect centre-back for Amorim
Now, according to a recent report from Turkish outlet Fanatik, the Reds have identified Fenerbahce’s 19-year-old defender Yusuf Akcicek as an option to address that Amorim request.
It was claimed that United are among several clubs monitoring the teenager, who has impressed with standout performances in the Turkish Super Lig.
Akcicek recently earned his debut for the Turkish national team, coming off the bench in their Nations League victory against Hungary last week.
Jose Mourinho, who tipped Akcicek to become the “perfect” defender, is keen to keep hold of his emerging star and it is claimed Fenerbahce are trying to negotiating a long-term contract for him amid interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
However, the report suggests that a significant offer could tempt the Istanbul club into considering a sale in the summer transfer window, and he could end up being the exact option Amorim has been asking for.
