Ruben Amorim has identified one Premier League star as a “key target” and the club is willing to “go all out” to sign him this summer.
With the season drawing to a close, Ruben Amorim has begun his search for reinforcements to join the Manchester United squad this summer.
Since joining the club, Amorim has only had one transfer window in charge. In January, United brought in young Arsenal talent Ayden Heaven and long-term Erik ten Hag target Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu from Lecce. This means that Amorim will be looking to bring in more players specific to his system and style of play.
United’s Premier League season has been the worst since the league rebrand in 1992, and even winning every remaining fixture would only see them earn 56 points, the previous worst season having 58.
Two of the main criticisms facing United this season have been goal threat and a lack of Premier League-proven players in the squad. United’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle saw 16 players involved for Amorim’s side, and 7 of them had never played in the Premier League before the start of this season.
Amorim is looking to rectify both of these issues with his newest transfer target as he looks to bring in a Premier League-proven goal threat.
Amorim wants Eze this summer
Reports from The Sun states that Amorim has identified Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze as a “key signing” this summer.
The England international has two years left on his Palace contract, and the London club are expecting bids of approximately £50 million. United also looked at Eze last summer, but the reported price at that stage was £20 million more than the most recent reports. With this new price evaluation, United are reportedly willing to “go all out” to sign the 26-year-old.
United are not alone in their interest in the creative forward however as Aston Villa are also reportedly looking to bring him in if they fail to secure United’s own Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal.
Further reports have suggested that United would be willing to engage in a swap deal with Aston Villa which would give them a free run at Eze.
How Eze fits in
Eze would fit into the United set up for a multitude of reasons, such as his versatility, familiarity with Amorim’s system and his attacking prowess.
In the league this season, Eze has registered three goals and eight assists. From United, only Bruno Fernandes has more assists this season, with nine, and Amad is the only other player to register more than three. Signing Eze would ease Fernandes and Diallo’s burden of being the only successful creative outlets in the side.
Eze also addresses the need for players who are familiar with Amorim’s system. Although the pair have never worked together, the formation that Eze plays under Oliver Glasner closely resembles Amorim’s, so he should fit in comfortably. Eze usually plays on the left-hand side of the attacking three, which is a forward area United will need to reinforce if Rashford departs the club.
Eze appears to be the perfect fit for United, filling the criteria of Premier League proven, creative and prolific in terms of goal involvements. For £20 million less than he was valued in the summer, the only thing that could scupper this deal is United’s finances or if another club in a less precarious position manages to entice him.
