Manchester United continue to be linked with a variety of players ahead of the summer transfer window.
Ruben Amorim has made no secret of his desires for a massive squad overhaul this summer, with attackers being a top priority for the club.
Reports suggest that INEOS are planning to smash United’s transfer record as they plot a £100 million-plus summer overhaul, selling players such as Marcus Rashford, Jaden Sancho and Antony.
This mass exodus will come as a relief to most United fans, who are desperate to see these big-money players replaced by fresh talent that want to give it all for the club.
But, in order for the sales to be warranted, the Red Devils will need to ensure they actually bring in enough reinforcements to give the squad the depth it so desperately needs to thrive.
Cherki’s agents contact United
United fans will be familiar with the 21-year-old prospect Rayan Cherki after his goal and standout performance at Old Trafford in the Europa League quarter-finals.
The talented Lyon star impressed Amorim and his staff with his performances across that tie and is clearly a player the club are keeping an eye on.
United have had previous contact with the Frenchman, dating back to when he was 15, the club approached him to sign, but were eventually put off due to concerns about his maturity.
Since then, Cherki has grown to become a key player in Lyon’s side, although United have been warned about his attitude ahead of a summer move, with the star drawing comparisons to fellow countryman Eric Cantona.
Despite this, the Red Devils are still keen to sign him, with Caught Offside reporting that Cherki’s agents have been in contact with the club to offer Cherki.
Fierce competition to sign Cherki
In the same report, it was claimed that Liverpool have also been contacted by the Frenchman’s entourage.
This is apparently as a ‘realistic alternative’ to Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, who is a similarly minded attacker with a much bigger price tag.
Hearing this, United will surely be desperate to avoid missing out on another transfer target – although their budget this summer will be largely dictated by the result of their Europa League final against Tottenham.
The result also will dictate whether Amorim’s side are playing in Europe next season, with the Champions League obviously being an attractive incentive for any player looking to sign.
