Manchester United have ‘already spoken’ about two 2026 transfer targets as incredible spending potential revealed

Manchester United have already spoken about two potential targets Rúben Amorim could look to sign in the 2026 summer transfer window.

Manchester United wrapped up their 2025 summer transfer business with the £18 million arrival of Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young keepers.

The club’s overall outlay stands at around £215 million upfront, a figure that could rise beyond £240 million if performance-related add-ons are triggered.

Alongside Lammens, United reinforced their attack with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško, while 18-year-old left-back Diego Leon joined earlier in July.

On the departures side, several fringe players, including Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Antony, secured moves elsewhere, with the headline exit being Alejandro Garnacho’s £40 million switch to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

United already laying groundwork for 2026

While United have brought in players in a number of areas the club desperately needed improvement upon this summer, there is certainly still work to be done in the future.

To the surprise of many, United did not sign a midfielder this summer. Still, following talks earlier this month, The Athletic have confirmed that the club are expected to return for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba in the 2026 summer transfer window.

It has been well-documented that Rúben Amorim views Baleba as his ideal midfield transfer, with The Athletic reporting that personal terms have already been agreed upon and the Cameroon international is keen on a switch.

Meanwhile, the same report explained that United have already held talks surrounding Bournemouth’s Antonie Semenyo, a player United’s head is very fond of.

If United’s season goes to plan this campaign and they qualify for the Champions League, the club will need to add further attacking depth to their front line, and Semenyo is likely an option that will be explored next summer.

United will have more freedom to spend next summer

Although United’s transfer outlay exceeds £200 million, a significant portion of this was funded through the eventual departures of some of their players.

The various moves of Garnacho, Antony, and Rasmus Højlund to their new clubs, as well as the wages saved through Sancho’s and Rashford’s respective loans, could see the club collect and save well over £150 million, which puts them in a strong position for next summer.

According to The Athletic, United expect to be in a good position regarding Financial Fair Play and Profit and Sustainability Regulations next summer, more so than the transfer window just gone, which could allow them to spend even more in 2026 to continue adding to their project.

Brighton are thought to want in excess of 100 million for Baleba, and Semenyo’s price could be as high as £70 million. If United do look to secure both, as well as replenish their squad with further additions, they will need to ensure their financial situation is as healthy as possible over the next 12 months.
