Manchester United have been handed a £40 million transfer boost after one player has controversially renewed his contract in La Liga.
Manchester United have already committed their opening transfer budget to securing Matheus Cunha and progressing talks for Bryan Mbeumo, as they press forward with a major attacking overhaul under Rúben Amorim.
With a new striker and midfielder still high on the agenda, the club must now focus on generating funds through player sales to continue their summer business.
Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony have all been made available for transfer, while Rasmus Højlund could also be sold if a suitable offer arrives.
The planned clear-out reflects Amorim’s intent to reshape the squad in his image, with sweeping changes expected at Old Trafford before the new season kicks off.
United handed £40m Rashford transfer boost
Rashford is the second most valuable player that United are aiming to offload this summer, with only Garnacho deemed to have a higher asking price than the English winger.
Despite interest in Rashford from across Europe, it has been made clear through multiple media reports that the 27-year-old’s preferred destination this summer is Barcelona. However, there has been scepticism regarding a potential move.
This primarily concerned the fact that Barcelona were heavily pursuing a deal with Athletic Club, with whom United had faced in the Europa League the previous season, to sign the “pure quality” Spanish winger Nico Williams.
However, it has been confirmed that the 22-year-old has now signed a fresh ten-year contract with the Bilbao-based club, which controversially does not expire until 2035.
With Williams set to stay at Athletic Club, Barcelona may turn their heads to signing Rashford, as they are desperate to bring in a new left-winger. United are asking for around £40 million for the player this summer.
United’s lack of sales is getting worrying
It has been well documented that United do not have enough initial funds to bring in all the players that Rúben Amorim wants this summer. As mentioned above, United need to sell to raise the rest.
Although the club have the potential to secure as much as a further £180 million from the sales of four players, so far, there has been little concrete movement.

Amorim initially wanted the majority of his new signings through the door before pre-season training started, but this no longer seems to be the case, with training set to start on Monday, 7 July.
Sancho has been closely linked with Juventus, while Antony has his heart set on a move back to Real Betis, and Rashford wants Barcelona. However, none of these sales have yet been finalised, which leaves United in an awkward position of knowing their targets but not being able to sign any.
The club need to push through these sales sooner rather than later, otherwise, the incoming players will have little time to bed in at United, which could cause significant issues during their first match of the season against Arsenal in mid-August.
