Manchester United handed Jadon Sancho transfer blow after Juventus’ “pathetic” £12.9m bid

Manchester United have been handed a blow in their chances of selling Jadon Sancho this summer amid Juventus submitting a bid worth £12.9 million.

Jadon Sancho’s spell at Manchester United has fallen well short of expectations for both player and club, making a permanent exit this summer increasingly likely.

A resolution once appeared close when Chelsea agreed to take Sancho on loan with an obligation to buy. However, the deal collapsed after the London club opted to pay a £5 million penalty to walk away from the agreement.

In recent weeks, Sancho’s representatives have been actively exploring new options ahead of the summer window, with clubs from Serie A, including Napoli and Juventus, emerging as serious contenders for the 25-year-old winger.

Earlier this week, Juventus submitted a £12.9 million bid for the winger that was dubbed “pathetic”, with United wanting a package worth around £26 million.

Fenerbahçe also expressed tentative interest, but the move failed to progress due to Sancho’s high wage demands.

Napoli’s stance on Sancho

Napoli will be looking to strengthen their squad ahead as the side look to defend their 2024/25 Serie A title, and they’ve now made their final decision on Sancho.

Similarly to talks with Fenerbahçe, Sancho’s wage demands have been a major stumbling block to any potential deal.

As reported by transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, Napoli have given up on a deal for the want-away United winger, handing United a blow with respect to their bargaining position.

“Napoli had a serious interest in Sancho; however, it was not workable with his wages, and they have turned their attention to Noa Lang and Dan Ndoye,” Bailey told TBR Football.

“Also, the fact they are working hard on Darwin Nunez – he is going to come in on big money too, so they could not hang around.”

United have to sell players

This is shaping up to be United’s first major decision of the summer. With Jadon Sancho’s contract set to expire next year, keeping him at the club in any capacity should no longer be an option.

Even if United are forced to lower their initial asking price, offloading Sancho would still bring significant benefits, most importantly shedding his £250,000-a-week wages and potentially recouping around £25 million when factoring in a transfer fee alongside the £5 million penalty Chelsea paid to walk away from their loan obligation.

While it once seemed United had little leverage in negotiations, increasing interest from clubs like Juventus has shifted the dynamic. That growing demand could allow United to stand firmer on their valuation, providing Rúben Amorim with valuable funds to reinvest this summer.

In the end, United may need to just take what they can get from their want-away players such as Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Antony. But the rising market interest in these names offers hope of driving up their value and maximising returns.
