Manchester United handed huge transfer boost in Antoine Semenyo race despite Tottenham Hostpur interest

Manchester United eye up a potential Antoine Semenyo move as Bournemouth provide a crucial boost for Rúben Amorim, despite Tottenham interest.

Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United currently sit two points behind underdogs Bournemouth. Andoni Iraola’s side’s impressive start to the season has been heavily influenced by Antoine Semenyo, who has provided the Cherries with six goals and three assists, making him the second top scorer behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

The Ghanaian international joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in January 2023 and has recently signed a new contract with the club until 2030. However, this was revealed to have a release clause suggesting Bournemouth will accept a high fee for Semenyo.

Semenyo’s consistent performances at the highest level prove attractive to a number of Premier League clubs who are interested in signing the winger in the summer.

United’s need for an attacking left winger has been heightened by Marcus Rashford’s form for Barcelona, suggesting a permanent move away from Old Trafford could be a certainty next summer.

As well as this, a heavy reliance on the right side of attack was clear against Liverpool; Amorim may be looking for a more balanced approach.

United receive huge Semenyo boost from Bournemouth

It is understood that Semenyo is definitely not for sale from Bournemouth in the approaching January transfer window, despite interest from many different clubs.

However, United have been provided an opportunity to approach Semenyo during the summer transfer window as Bournemouth have begun looking for replacements for their star player.

TBR Football have reported that Bournemouth have begun to show interest in Ipswich Town’s Jaden Philogene, a 23-year-old winger with great Championship form.

With Bournemouth eyeing up potential replacements, the door has been opened for United to once again approach Semenyo after Amorin dined with the winger in the summer.

A hefty fee may come alongside Semenyo’s name, with interest shown by Premier League opponent Tottenham Hotspur and interest expected to rise as the summer window approaches and Semenyo’s form continues.

Semenyo’s price may leave United looking elsewhere

Semenyo’s transfer value has reportedly doubled in a year, according to TransferMarkt, who currently value the winger at £48 million.

With United under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s new stricter spending caps, they may be forced to look elsewhere during the summer transfer window.

It is also suggested that Amorim may not be targeting a left-winger during the summer due to his system often going without wingers and instead using wing-backs to boost attacking options.

Amorim is unlikely to change his tactics, so he may target players who fit into these expected roles more smoothly than Semenyo in the January transfer window and summer transfer window.
