Manchester United handed big boost as injury expert delivers verdict on Leny Yoro’s recovery
Manchester United have been handed a big boost as an injury expert delivers his verdict on Leny Yoro’s recovery.
It has been a difficult start to life at Manchester United for Leny Yoro, who is yet to make his competitive debut following a pre-season injury.
He fractured the fifth metatarsal on his left foot during a friendly clash against Arsenal which led to him having surgery.
Those at Carrington have praised the 19-year-old’s reaction during his recovery and he is now within touching distance of making his return to the pitch.
Despite having trained with the first-team squad since Ruben Amorim’s arrival, the head coach wants to take things slowly with the defender as he reaches full fitness.
“He is available to train, but we are working on his fitness,” the 39-year-old told reporters when asked about the teenager.
“This is important. We believe a lot in him, and we are trying to prepare the best way to start with Leny.”
Injury expert assesses Yoro injury
Yoro will be wanting to make his return as soon as possible, and once he is fully fit and playing, there should be little concern about a repeat issue.
That is the assessment of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who believes the issue is unlikely to reoccur like you would see with muscle injuries.
“The actual injury itself is a bone injury. It’s a metatarsal fracture. So once that bone is healed you’re not going to get any real sort of long term issues with that, or rarely do you,” Dinnery told the Manchester Evening News.
“So once that is healed then he should be absolutely fine. You will manage his load accordingly, but other than that, there aren’t really any major red flags on players returning from that type of problem.
“I think there’s maybe been one or two such recalls over the last 15-plus years. So it’s fairly routine and once the recovery and the rehab protocols are complete, then typically the player should be ready to kick on.”
Yoro returning will be brilliant for Amorim
Once he is back, the French defender could be a key figure for Amorim’s side in the new-look 3-4-3 setup.
He would be able to operate across the back three, with his pace and physical attributes extremely useful for how Amorim needs his wide centre-backs to play.
Noussair Mazraoui has shown his class at right centre-back in the first two games of Amorim’s tenure, which also shows that the team won’t need to be dependant on Yoro once he returns.
But he will definitely provide the team a big boost on the pitch and fans will finally be able to see what he’s all about.
