Manchester United seem to be edging closer to signing a new goalkeeper this summer to replace David de Gea.

The future of Erik ten Hag‘s Manchester United squad has been a hot debate topic in the last few months, with a lot of focus seemingly on who will be the No. 1 goalkeeper next season.

Despite winning the Premier League Golden Glove, David de Gea was the subject of much criticism last season, most notably after the FA Cup final loss against Manchester City at the beginning of June.

In light of this, Portuguese outlet Correio de Manha have claimed that United are ‘finalizing a proposal’ to sign FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

It is said in the report that Porto need to make money before the 30th of June in order to balance their finances and that as the goalkeeper is the squad’s most valuable asset, they will be willing to sell him in order to meet these demands.

Costa is said to have a release clause of around £65 million, and should United pay the fee, it would make him the second-most expensive goalkeeper signing of all time, just shy of what Chelsea paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018.

David de Gea is said to have a new contract proposal on the table for reduced wages, however, the club are yet to confirm if the contract has been signed or not as of now – De Gea recently entered into the final few weeks of his current deal.

The club are also willing to let Dean Henderson depart to Nottingham Forest on a permanent basis, although a fee between the two clubs is yet to be agreed.
