Manchester United fans told Ruben Amorim’s ‘biggest quality’ – it suits the club perfectly
Manchester United fans have been told Ruben Amorim’s ‘biggest quality’ and it suits the entire club perfectly.
Manchester United have appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach following Erik ten Hag’s departure from Old Trafford.
Ten Hag, who had his contract extended during the summer, oversaw a difficult start to the season with United 14th in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League.
This resulted in his departure on Monday morning, with the club moving quickly to secure Amorim as his replacement.
Amorim will remain at Sporting Lisbon for the next week before joining the club on 11 November, he is set to lead the team for the first time after the November international break against Ipswich Town.
What is Ruben Amorim’s biggest quality?
Amorim is extremely well known for his 3-4-3 formation. Fans are excited to see how his personality and charisma rubs off on the playing squad.
Yet, there is another aspect of his coaching style which will greatly excite those at Old Trafford. He constantly looks to get the most out of young talent.
At Sporting, he introduced many young and raw players to his team, including from their academy, and managed to help develop and nurture them.
Joao Nuno Fonseca was the assistant manager of Benfica B during Amorim’s rise and he believes that the 39-year-old’s ability to ‘shape diamonds’ out of youth talent is his biggest strength.
“The work that he has done and is continuing to do in developing young talent is the biggest reason for his success,” Fonseca told Sky Sports. “Sporting have an amazing academy with a lot of talent. And Ruben is a coach who has an ability to shape diamonds.
“I know how difficult it is to manage those egos at Benfica. Making that step from the youth to the first team, you need to have a certain sensibility. At the same time, the president is demanding performances and results. He has delivered all of it.
“Big clubs are looking at him because they understand that the academy brings profits. I would say his biggest quality is the human side and how he has been able to shape those diamonds that he has.
“He plays a high defensive line most of the time and is good on transitions. It is still a positive game idea based around ball possession. This arrogance in the playing style is very positive for young players because they have this no-fear mentality. That is key.”
Amorim can ‘shape diamonds’ at United
Manchester United recently celebrated 87 years of having at least one academy graduate in a first-team matchday squad. The record began on 30 October 1937 and not a game since has been absent of academy talent.
This is the DNA of United and an extremely important part of the club. People will be extremely pleased to hear that Amorim does not only agree with it, but that he can facilitate it.
And that’s the biggest thing. It has always been part of United to bring through youth talent, but the current crop of youngsters may be the best group in a long period.
After winning the U18s Premier League–alongside two other trophies–last term, United’s U18s side are currently top of the league and unbeaten. Chido Obi-Martin, Shea Lacey, Amir Ibragimov, Gabriele Biancheri, Jack Fletcher – these are just some of the names that could come through.
With this current crop, Amorim will have the best opportunity to show how he can shape diamonds at Old Trafford.
