Paul Scholes has offered his thoughts on Manchester United signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United have had a terrible season so far in the Premier League and their biggest problem has been in attacking areas.
The likes of Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho have struggled in terms of goalscoring and the Reds are eyeing offensive reinforcements in the transfer market.
Matheus Cunha appears to be the priority target for Ruben Amorim’s side and would fit perfectly into the left-sided no.10 role at Old Trafford.
Reports have claimed that an agreement is nearing and that Cunha is expected to become the first signing of the summer for United.
Scholes makes bizarre Cunha transfer claim
It is very obvious that Cunha would be an upgrade on United’s current options but somehow, Paul Scholes has still managed to have a problem about the potential move.
The ex-United midfielder says that he is concerned about any player signing for his former club as it is “such a bad place to go” at the moment.
“Matheus Cunha is obviously athletic, and he’s got quality with 15 league goals this season,” Scholes said in his TNT Sports column.
“I just worry for any signing coming to Manchester United at the minute. It just feels like it’s such a bad place to go. The quality of play right now is so poor.”
United fans slam Scholes comments
That’s right. United are bad at the moment and the solution is apparently to not sign good players. That makes complete sense.
United fans were understandably frustrated at those comments from a club legend, with many letting their feelings known on social media.
One fan wrote: “I love Scholes and he’ll forever be one of my favourite players, but I really wish he’d just pack it in sometimes.”
“Showing exactly why he shouldn’t be a pundit. Recent games would be massively different had we had players in that final 3rd the quality of Cunha,” another added.
A third supporter said: “I’d love to know what Scholes’ solution to us being sh*t is if he doesn’t think we should go and bring in better players. Sitting on our hands moaning isn’t going to do anything.”
There isn’t much to be positive about in terms of United at the moment but Scholes’ comments are simply being negative for the sake of it.
Like fans have mentioned, how on earth are United supposed to improve in Scholes’ mind if they don’t sign better players simply because their current squad is poor? Work that out.
