Manchester United eyeing £78m world-class star as potential Bruno Fernandes replacement

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up a £78million superstar, if their captain, Bruno Fernandes, was to depart next summer.

During the summer transfer window, Manchester United ace Bruno Fernandes was the subject of heavy interest from the Saudi Pro League, however, the Portuguese star stayed put.

Fernandes was being offered an eye-watering £700,000 per week by the Saudi top-flight, although he opted to stay loyal, continuing his life at Old Trafford.

Under the reign of Ruben Amorim, the United captain was forced to play a much deeper role, which led to murmurs that he may be unhappy; however, since Amorim’s sacking, he has returned to his favoured role as an attacking midfielder.

Despite being moved back to his preferred position under Darren Fletcher, the 31-year-old is still being linked with a summer transfer, which may lead the Reds to move for a £78million superstar.

United linked with Yildiz move

With the Reds still keen on bolstering their attack, they are reportedly interested in Juventus’ star player, Kenan Yildiz, as reported by TEAMTalk.

The Turkish winger is the subject of interest from both Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea as well, with both sides ready to make a move if Yildiz’s renewal talks with Juventus collapse.

Chelsea attempted to sign Yildiz in the summer for £61million, however, their approach was rejected due to Juventus valuing their star at £78million.

The 20-year-old is being touted as a ‘leading candidate’ to replace Fernandes, if the United captain were to depart, although a deal may be difficult to strike due to the heavy interest in the youngster.

Fernandes seeking a way out?

Even though the Portuguese superstar opted to stay put in the summer, iSport have reported that United are fearing that their captain has had enough of the club’s constant turmoil.

Fernandes has been in fine form over the course of the 2025/26 campaign, notching five goals and eight assists across the first half of the Premier League season.

Considering the Portuguese midfielder’s consistent availability and quality, his departure would surely leave a dent in the United squad.

The Red Devils would need to be very wise in replacing their captain if an exit truly is on the cards, and a move for Yildiz may be a very smart and exciting option.
