Manchester United have reportedly expressed an interest in one of Arsenal’s summer transfer targets amid ongoing debate about Bruno Fernandes.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made no secret of the fact that his club are in the market for a midfielder this season.
Over the summer, United targeted 21-year-old Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, but that transfer fell through, leaving a hole within United’s squad.
Now reports from the Spanish outlet Fichajes have emerged stating that the Red Devils may have found their next midfield target in the form of Athletic Club’s Oihan Sancet.
The 25-year-old did well in La Liga last season, scoring 17 goals and getting three assists along the way, which could be exactly what United need to improve their rocky form.
United need a player like Sancet
United have been overly reliant on captain Bruno Fernandes for goals and creativity from the midfield. Still, this season, fans have been upset with the areas he occupies on the pitch, often playing a deeper role than usual.
Due to this, United need a player like Sancet who will provide added stability in the centre of the pitch, freeing up players like Fernandes to play higher up.
Despite not having the midfield additions he wanted, Amorim’s side utilised Fernandes and Casemiro in their last fixture, with both scoring to win the game 2-1.
This is a positive for the club, although reinforcements are definitely needed in order to build on this small success.
United up against Arsenal and Spurs
The midfielder has a £70 million release clause, and it remains to be seen whether United will be willing to pay for him.
The opportunity to play for Manchester United will no doubt be exciting for the La Liga star, but according to the report from Fichajes, they will face competition from Arsenal and Tottenham.
This could prove to be a vital blockade in the acquisition of the midfielder, as both North London clubs have Champions League football this season, which is an attractive prospect for any footballer.
Whether United will end up with their man remains to be seen, regardless, they could do with reinforcements in the centre of the park if they are going to positively progress this season.
