Manchester United expecting price drop for £87m star following January rumours

Manchester United are currently expecting a distinct price drop for one of their attacking targets ahead of the summer transfer window, following many January rumours.

Manchester United look set to delve into the transfer market next summer in what could be yet another busy window for the Red Devils.

Having spent north of £200m on four new signings last summer, Michael Carrick’s side will almost definitely be bringing in multiple new faces come the summer period.

United’s summer was used predominantly to reinforce their struggling attack, which has since been successful, mainly due to the instant success of both Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Opposing last summer, it seems as if the Reds will focus on multiple areas of their squad in the next transfer window, although attacking acquisitions could still be a possibility.

United expect Diomande price drop

As reported by The United Stand on X, reliable transfer insider Ben Jacobs has stated that the Reds expect a price drop for Yan Diomande in the summer.

The Ivorian winger had a price tag set at around £87million in January, upon rumours that United were interested in his signature, although this is expected to drop significantly.

Jacobs reports that the final summer fee for the RB Leipzig winger should fall closer to the £52-£61million range, with many clubs interested in the young talent.

In just his first season in Germany, the 19-year-old prospect has eight goals and five assists in 21 Bundesliga appearances, making him the ninth top scorer.

Could Diomande bolster the Reds?

United currently sit fourth in the Premier League standings, which has them on track to earn a spot in the UEFA Champions League for next season.

This being said, the Reds will need further reinforcement in order to have the sufficient level of squad depth required to play in four different competitions.

As for this campaign, United’s squad depth has been more than enough, due to them only having a 40 game season, which they will be desperate to avoid next campaign.

Given that Cunha is the Reds’ only senior winger, aside from Patrick Dorgu who has featured there recently, the talented Diomande could be a suitable and exciting transfer.
