Erik ten Hag will be able to select a much-improved XI as Manchester United prepare to face Rangers in their second pre-season friendly of summer 2024.

Erik ten Hag will have more players available for selection as Manchester United take on Rangers in their second pre-season fixture.

Despite starting their pre-season tour with a 1-0 loss to Rosenborg, the main goal was to get match fitness for several key players. Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, Casemiro, and others each played 45 minutes as they prepare for the new season.

Following the Rangers game in Scotland on Saturday afternoon, the squad will travel to the USA for matches against Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool. They will then face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday, August 10.

Although Radek Vitek started in goal against Rosenborg, André Onana is expected to return to his usual spot after undergoing a week of fitness training upon his return to Carrington.

In front of him, Leny Yoro may get his first minutes back on the pitch after joining the club earlier this week and could partner alongside Jonny Evans in defence. Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains the club’s only first-team right-back, while Harry Amass could get further minutes at left-back.

If Yoro does not start, Will Fish may be the man to play alongside Evans, much like against Rosenborg.

No changes are expected in midfield from the Rosenborg game. Casemiro will continue in midfield and be partnered with Hannibal Mejbri and Mason Mount as all three continue to build their match fitness.

Although Scott McTominay returned to Carrington earlier this week following his 2024 European Championship exploits, the Rangers tie comes too soon for him to start, with the player remaining at Carrington for the tie.

One change is expected in the attack. Although Ethan Williams was handed the right-wing spot in Norway, it is expected that Amad Diallo will be granted this spot following his week of training.

After Marcus Rashford did not travel, Jadon Sancho will likely start on the left wing – it would be Sancho’s first appearance under Erik ten Hag in almost a year. As Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have not yet returned to training, Ethan Wheatley will likely keep the striker spot.

However, during the second half, Ethan Ennis and Joe Hugill may return to the fold to gain minutes before the team fly to the USA next week.

Man United expected XI

Onana, Wan-Bissaka, Evans, Yoro, Amass, Casemiro, Mount, Hannibal, Amad, Wheatley, Sancho.
