Manchester United have reportedly held initial meetings for an £80 million-rated Bundesliga star ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window.
Manchester United are reportedly intrigued by the prospect of signing Borussia Dortmund attacker Karim Adeyemi, who is valued at around £80 million.
These reports come from Bild, who believe he is a real potential target for the Red Devils in the near future.
The forward has recently changed his agent to Jorge Mendes, someone who has a very strong relationship with United, thus sparking rumours of a potential deal between the player and the club.
Man United have recently signed three new attackers in Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo.
With Joshua Zirkzee waiting in the wings for his opportunity to shine, and prodigies such as Chido Obi growing in the academy, it would be a strange decision to add another player who does not exactly improve the squad or fill in a missing gap.
Adeyemi’s mixed form raises questions
The reports coming from Bild suggest that United have ‘entered the fray’ when it comes to the discussion of a potential transfer involving Adeyemi, and that ‘there has been an exchange’ between Man United and agent Jorge Mendes.
Despite showing quite a few glimpses of deadly potential with his incredible speed and ball striking during his time with the German international team, since his last season at RB Leipzig, where he scored 23 goals, he has been unable to find any form of consistency in his output for Dortmund.
The same has transpired this season, as he has only managed three goals and three assists in all competitions since the start of the Bundesliga season. Many have put this down to the demise of the player’s relationship with his manager, Niko Kovač, who has started the player on the bench for the last two Bundesliga matches.
The 23-year-old has been in rather poor form as of late, with his last goal contribution being an assist against Athletic Club on October 1st, and his last goal came all the way back in September.
Should United go for Adeyemi or leave him alone?
The player has undoubtedly made a strong name for himself in the world of football, with most fans aware of his abilities. However, has he done enough to take the big step to the Premier League and to a club as prestigious as Manchester United?
Obviously, the player has experience in the Champions League, which is regarded by many as the biggest stage in club football.
Still, he has shown a lot of inconsistency, and with us already seeing many players fail in the Premier League who have arrived from Germany, such as Timo Werner and Christopher Nkunku for Chelsea, the odds of him working out at United are not great.
After an expensive summer, a lack of Champions League football, and players leaving for minimal fees or potentially for free, the club needs to be cautious with how much it spends and on what.
Since they have recently acquired multiple attacking options and lack depth in midfield, Adeyemi does not seem like a smart idea for the club right now.
