Manchester United double signing for £175,000-a-week duo depends on two key factors

Manchester United could make a double signing later this summer for Ruben Amorim but those moves depend on two key factors occurring.

When Manchester United entered the summer transfer window, their main objective was to strengthen the attacking line, and Matheus Cunha became their first acquisition.

The 26-year-old forward scored 15 Premier League goals last season and is expected to play a pivotal role at Old Trafford in the coming campaign.

United also signed teenage talent Diego Leon but a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo has stalled after two rejected bids. Those at Old Trafford are still confident about reaching an eventual agreement.

The next priorities for the Reds are bringing in a striker and a midfielder. However, additional signings will hinge on player departures, with several candidates being evaluated for each role.

Calvert-Lewin and Ndidi deals depend on two key factors

There are some options in the transfer window United are considering which may be less popular within the club’s fanbase.

Wilfred Ndidi has been regularly linked with a move due to his release clause of around £9 million after Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has also been offered to the Reds and he would be able to join for free after his Everton contract expired.

It has been clarified by Ben Jacobs on the United Stand YouTube channel that both of these potential deals are similar situations in that United would only consider them later in the window. That is likely if options elsewhere fail.

Importantly, it was also mentioned that Calvert-Lewin’s wages are considered too big right now and the same has been said for Ndidi in reports elsewhere.

The Nigerian midfielder currently earns £75,000-a-week at the King Power Stadium, while Calvert-Lewin was on £100,000-a-week at Everton.

United cannot afford to put aside £175,000-a-week for two players who would be squad depth signings, and it seems like these deals would also depend on them lowering their demands significantly.

United could fill those spaces with Academy players

The reaction to these potential deals is understandable and it would only work if other signings were also made in those positions.

Both players have experience in the Premier League and provide slightly different options to those already at United. If a top striker and midfielder are also brought in, there will be fewer complaints.

But some would also argue that those squad positions could be filled by the Academy talent at the club. For example, Chido Obi and Sekou Kone could come in and play those roles.

While there isn’t a huge outlay in terms of transfer fees for Ndidi and Calvert-Lewin, the wages would trump those of the youngsters and some would argue that it’s not worth it and United need to look for upgrades rather than depth signings right now.
