Manchester United provide double injury hint ahead of Liverpool clash
Manchester United may have provided a double injury hint ahead of their final pre-season clash against Liverpool on Sunday.
The Reds have played four pre-season games and will return to England for the Community Shield against Manchester City next weekend after this final friendly.
Erik ten Hag’s side have had positives and negatives since coming to the United States.
We have seen some improvements and good signs regarding the playstyle. It was also nice to see a goal from a corner routine against Real Betis after Andreas Georgson joined as set-piece coach this week.
However, on the other hand, there have been serious injuries for Leny Yoro and Rasmus Højlund. The pair will be out of action for three months and six weeks, respectively.
There were further concerns when Ten Hag substituted Marcus Rashford and Antony during the Betis clash, with both players also seeming to pick up injuries.
Ten Hag was unable to provide any details on the two attackers when he spoke to the media, although his comments suggested that they would not be lengthy layouts if they were injured.
“We have to wait,” he told reporters. “Of course, we don’t go into risk, into the last game of the tour, going into the season next week already, into an important game [against Manchester City].
“We are still within the 24 hours after a game, so the final assessment we have to make and we will see if they are ready for the final game on Saturday against Liverpool.”
Since then, the club uploaded a post on their social media platforms to thank the UCLA team for their hospitality during their pre-season camp.
An image with the United training squad and the employees at UCLA was attached and both Rashford and Antony were in the picture in full training gear.
This suggests that both players trained with the squad on Friday before they departed for South Carolina. Yet, as Ten Hag mentioned, they could be saved against Liverpool to ensure full fitness going into the season.
Thankfully, though, neither player has suffered a similar fate to Yoro or Højlund, who will both miss the start of the season.
