Manchester United are set to make their final decision on David de Gea in the coming days as André Onana is chosen as Erik ten Hag’s preferred goalkeeper replacement.

David de Gea looks increasingly likely to leave Manchester United next week with his contract set to expire at the end of June, and signs that he will sign a new one before then.

Erik ten Hag, meanwhile, has decided that he wants to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer, with Jordan Pickford, André Onana, and Diogo Costa as the three short-listed options available this summer.

With Ten Hag keen to change the way United play to a style that involves building up from the back and retaining possession, it has been said that he has now chosen Onana as his primary target.

The fee for Onana has been set by Inter Milan at £43 million plus add-ons, which is considerably less than Costa’s £64.5m release clause, meaning Ten Hag will be able to allocate extra funds for other targets.

The choosing of Onana as their primary target may now indicate that United will come to a final decision on the future of David de Gea, and confirm that he will be leaving the club next week.

One reason for the stalling of signing a new goalkeeper was said to be the fact that De Gea’s future had not been resolved – but now that the club have settled on Onana, this indicates that De Gea’s future has been decided internally.

The club were due to issue a statement on his future in the next seven days regardless as his contract expires on June 30th, but with these new developments, a full resolution could come as early as Monday morning.
