Manchester United have seen one of their hopeful transfer outgoings fall apart as two clubs walk away from a summer transfer.

After spending £139 million on acquisitions such as Joshua ZirkzeeLeny YoroMatthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui, Manchester United are actively recouping funds through player sales.

They have already generated over £60 million from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala, and others’ departures.

As the transfer window is set to close next Thursday, the club are continuing to explore additional sales.

Jadon Sancho and Scott McTominay are expected to leave before the 11 p.m. deadline, but there are other squad players who the club are hoping they can move on.

One of these is Sweden captain Victor Lindelöf. The 30-year-old currently has a toe injury that has ruled him out of ties against Manchester City, Fulham, and Brighton, and he will also miss the upcoming fixture against Liverpool.

According to Sport Witness, Serie A sides Fiorentina and Lazio surrounded the Swedish international with a view of securing him this summer.

However, Alfredo Pedulla has now confirmed that the latter have not been convinced by the player in recent days, and it is due to United’s own doing.

According to the report, a significant reason Lazio have not made a concrete offer is the wages United currently pay Lindelöf. It is thought that he is currently earning around £120k a week.

It’s further stated that even if the deal was a loan and the two clubs shared the wage package, Lazio would struggle to afford their side of the payments.

Fiorentina are also said to have faced a similar issue. They would have ideally wanted United to terminate Lindelof’s contract and pay him compensation—this was the only way they could have signed him this summer.

Overall, it looks as if Lindelöf will now see out his contract as a Manchester United player, having signed an extension with the side in 2019. Both clubs have pulled out of the race to sign him, and no other suitors are currently in sight.
