As Manchester United’s summer transfer business continues, yet another player could be added to the transfer list if a current target is signed, as the deadline closes in
Following their 1-0 loss to Arsenal in their opening game of the Premier League season at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s preparation for their first away trip of the season is underway.
United’s new forward line impressed, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both showing very promising signs on their full debuts for the club, and will look to take that form into their match against Fulham on Sunday.
The goalkeeper position was a topic of discussion during pre-season, and has continued into the league. Against Arsenal, Ruben Amorim opted for Turkish international Altay Bayındır between the sticks rather than usual first-choice André Onana, as the Cameroonian was injured for most of the pre-season preparations.
Although Bayındır had a positive game, it was his mistake that led to Arsenal’s winning goal after he failed to punch the ball away from a corner, which allowed Riccardo Calafiori to score.
United working on a move for Lammens
Despite openly defending the Turkish keeper after the game, labelling the goalkeeper “unbelievable”, there is still a chance that the 27-year-old could be sold before the end of the transfer window.
As reported by ESPN, United have contacted Royal Antwerp over a potential deal for 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
The outlet also reports that United are not looking to replace current No. 1 Onana, but looking to strengthen their current group of keepers.
If Lammens makes the move to Old Trafford, it is reported that questions about the future of Bayındır will be raised, with the player potentially being the seventh player transfer listed at Old Trafford this summer.
United need to sell their outcast players
As the end of the transfer window quickly approaches, United still have several players on the books that they want to sell.
Comprising players such as Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, the exiled squad members have been informed by Amorim that the onus is on them to secure moves away before the September 1 deadline.
United have already spent over £200 million this summer to address their forward line, and with Amorim still keen to sign a new midfielder and goalkeeper, selling players is a necessity to fund these additional moves.
There is little time for members of the ‘bomb squad’ to secure new opportunities away from the club, and despite Amorim admitting that they can be reintegrated into the side if necessary, that is surely a last resort if the situation cannot be resolved.
It remains to be seen if this potential reintegration could disrupt a dressing room that, by reports, has looked more United than ever going into this season.
