A Manchester United star could be set for a shock departure on a free transfer following a disappointing loan spell away from the club.
This recent summer transfer window has been the first time in a long time where it feels as if Manchester United have got the vast majority of their business correct.
With four new signings all hitting the ground running, as well as making some key sales, Ruben Amorim’s side have improved drastically since last campaign, which has been proven by their recent form.
Most of United’s summer revolved around rejuvenating their attacking department, which included letting a lot of their former stars leave either permanently or on a loan basis.
Alejandro Garnacho and Antony left permanently, whilst Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have left on season-long loans to make room for United’s new additions.
Sancho set for free transfer
As reported by talkSPORT, Sancho could be set for a free transfer away from United as the club aims to cut their losses ahead of his contract expiration, with Harry Maguire’s and Casemiro’s current respective deals to expire at the end of the season, too.
The English winger spent last year at Chelsea before being sent to Aston Villa over the summer, although he has since been restricted to only three league appearances so far.
With the 25-year-old clearly not setting the league alight, talkSPORT claims that when Sancho returns to United, the club is leaning toward letting him leave for free to avoid having to fork out £200,000-a-week for another year.
Sancho’s wages are around £200,000-a-week due to United’s lack of Champions League football, but if the club returns to Europe’s top flight next summer, this could increase to around £250,000 a week, which is £13 million a year.
This will bring a sad end to what has been a disappointing few years for the winger, who joined the Reds for a fee of £73 million following a spectacular spell at Borussia Dortmund.
United wisening up
A key struggle for United over the past decade has been signing players on massive wages, only to then desperately, and often unsuccessfully, try to sell them.
It appears that, since the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, the Reds are trying to close this chapter by letting go of all their stars who are on overly luxurious contracts.

These players are being replaced by both young talents on lower wages, and primed stars on more deserving, standard wages, such as the likes of Senne Lammens and Bryan Mbeumo.
This could represent a new era for United as they look to avoid making similar mistakes in the future, which could spell the start of an exciting time at the club.
